EDF for Tamilnad Mercantile Bank: how to fill and submit it
If your foreign clients pay into a Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB) account, TMB is your AD bank and your monthly EDF for services goes there. Every invoice you raise in a month belongs on one EDF, due within 30 days from the end of that month, and TMB decides through its own published policy how it accepts the form. A short, repeatable monthly routine keeps you well inside the deadline.
Key takeaways
- File with TMB if it is the bank where your export proceeds are credited.
- Get the AD code from your branch first; it is not the IFSC and not the SWIFT code.
- Ask TMB which channel it accepts for EDFs and what it wants attached.
- Build a monthly routine: invoices close at month-end, EDF goes in during the following weeks, declarations follow payment.
- If you miss the deadline, file anyway with a reason; the bank may accept a delayed EDF for reasonable cause.
Does TMB handle your EDF?
The 2026 export regulations send services EDFs to the AD bank, an Authorised Dealer Category-I bank, for exporters outside SEZs. That is normally the bank receiving your foreign remittances. If your clients wire money to your TMB current account, TMB is where the EDF goes.
Proprietorships, partnership firms, LLPs and companies should all assume they are covered. Individuals are a different story for now: at RBI's 7 October 2026 policy press conference, the Governor said individuals providing services abroad are not required to report, and RBI said FAQs would follow. The text of the Regulations has not yet changed, so if you work in your personal name, ask TMB how it is treating individual customers until the FAQs are out. Our guide on EDF for sole proprietorships explains where proprietors stand.
A simple monthly routine for TMB customers
Most small exporters do not need a complicated system. They need the same few steps at the same time each month.
| When | What to do | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Last working day of the month | Close the invoice list for the month | Final list of export invoices |
| First week of next month | Prepare the EDF with one Part 2B row per invoice | Draft EDF |
| Second week | Review, sign Part 4, prepare covering note | Signed EDF |
| By the third week | Submit through the channel TMB confirmed | Acknowledgement recorded |
| As payments arrive | Collect FIRA or advice, check purpose code | Payment evidence on file |
| Each quarter | Give the ₹10 lakh realisation declaration for paid invoices | EDPMS entries closed |
Finishing by the third week leaves a cushion before the 30-day deadline in case TMB asks for a correction.
Getting the details right for TMB
AD code and bank address
Ask your branch for the AD code that applies to your account for export transactions. If your branch does not deal in foreign exchange directly, the code may belong to another TMB branch, and field 1.10 should carry that branch's name and address. Ask for both in one conversation.
The channel
Banks must publish their own EDF acceptance policies, and the accepted method can be the branch counter, an email the branch designates, or a trade option in net banking. Do not assume; ask your branch manager which applies to you and keep a note of the answer.
The form itself
The quickest route is our TMB EDF form, which pre-fills the bank name so you only add your details and invoices. Check field 1.1 (Services or Software), 1.4 (Internet for online delivery), 1.12 (usually Others) and the rupee total in 1.22, in figures and words.
A worked example from a small studio
Nila Textile Design Studio, a proprietorship in Coimbatore, sells textile print designs and pattern artwork as a service to apparel brands abroad. It banks with TMB. In January 2027 it raised three invoices: USD 1,900 to a brand in Los Angeles, EUR 1,250 to a brand in Milan, and GBP 800 to a brand in Manchester.
The proprietor prepares one EDF for January with three rows in Part 2B. Because January 2027 invoices are due by 2 March 2027 (February has 28 days), she aims to submit by 20 February. Using her book rates, the rupee total is ₹3,76,250.
The Los Angeles brand pays in February, the Milan brand in April, and the Manchester brand in May. All three invoices are under ₹10 lakh, so at the end of each quarter she lists the paid invoices on one realisation declaration for TMB, which lets the bank close the entries in EDPMS without separate paperwork for each. Our realisation declaration tool produces that declaration in a few minutes.
If you are late
Life happens: a busy month, a missing invoice copy, a signatory travelling. If you miss the 30-day deadline, do not wait for the next month and fold it in. File the late EDF as soon as you can, with a short covering note explaining the reason.
The regulations allow the AD bank to accept a delayed EDF for reasonable cause. It is TMB's decision, so be specific and honest about why it was late. Our guide on fixing a missed EDF deadline covers what to write and what to keep on file.
A related point: if a client pays before you have filed, the bank may hold the inward credit until the EDF is given. For services other than software, the EDF can also be submitted on or before the date payment is received, so filing promptly protects your cash flow as well as your compliance.
This is general information, not legal or tax advice. TMB's own process governs the details, so confirm with your branch whenever you are unsure.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I get the AD code for my TMB account?
From your branch or relationship manager. Ask specifically for the AD code used for export transactions on your account, as it may belong to a designated branch. It is different from your IFSC and from TMB's SWIFT code.
Can I submit the EDF at my local TMB branch?
That depends on TMB's published policy and which branch holds your AD code. Ask your local branch whether it accepts EDFs directly or forwards them, or whether another channel such as email applies.
What documents should I attach for TMB?
Ask the branch. Banks set their own requirements, and they can change. Keeping invoice copies, a short covering letter and any remittance references ready means you can respond quickly to whatever TMB asks for.
Do I need to file an EDF if my client has not paid yet?
Yes. The EDF is tied to the invoice month, not the payment. Invoices raised in a month go on that month's EDF, due within 30 days from month-end, and realisation follows within 9 months of each invoice date.
I am a freelancer with a TMB savings account. Do I need to file?
RBI said on 7 October 2026 that individuals providing services abroad are not required to report, but the Regulations themselves have not yet been amended and FAQs are pending. Ask TMB how it is handling individual customers in the meantime, and keep your invoices and FIRAs organised either way.
Bottom line
For TMB customers, the EDF becomes routine once you have the AD code, the accepted channel and a fixed monthly rhythm. Start this month's form with our free TMB EDF form and submit it well before the deadline.

EDF form FAQs
What is the EDF form?
The Export Declaration Form (EDF) is the form in the Annex to RBI's Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026. From 1 October 2026, exporters of services declare the full export value on it to their AD bank (or STPI for software, or the SEZ Development Commissioner for SEZ units).
When is the EDF due?
Within 30 days from the end of the month in which the invoice was raised. October 2026 invoices are due by 30 November 2026. For services other than software, you may instead submit on or before the date you receive payment.
Can one EDF cover several clients?
Yes. One EDF can cover all your service exports in a month to one or more recipients. Each invoice gets its own row in Part 2B.
Which parts does a service exporter fill?
Part 1 (general information), Part 2B (services table) and Part 4 (declaration). Part 2A is for goods and Part 3 is for post/courier exports, so service exporters usually leave them blank. Part 5 is for the bank.
Do individual freelancers have to file the EDF?
On 7 October 2026, RBI said individuals providing services abroad are not covered by the reporting requirement and that FAQs will follow. The Regulations' text hasn't changed yet, so check with your bank. Proprietorships, firms, LLPs and companies should assume they are covered.
By when must I get paid?
Within nine months of the invoice date for services, or twelve months if the invoice is in Indian rupees. Your AD bank can extend this on a reasoned request.
What is the AD code and where do I get it?
The AD code identifies the bank branch that handles your export transactions. It is not the IFSC or SWIFT code. Ask your branch or relationship manager — our AD code request letter makes it easy.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Without an account, everything stays in your browser. If you create a free account, your business details and saved EDFs are stored so you can reopen them on any device.
Does the EDF change my GST or income tax?
No. The EDF is a FEMA declaration to your bank. GST (LUT, zero-rated supply) and income tax rules apply separately.
