Frequently asked questions
How do banks compound FD interest?
Most Indian banks compound cumulative FDs quarterly. Non-cumulative FDs pay interest out monthly or quarterly instead, so there's no compounding.
Is FD interest taxable?
Yes, it is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate. Banks deduct TDS when interest crosses the threshold unless you submit Form 15G/15H where eligible.
Do senior citizens get a higher rate?
Most banks offer senior citizens an extra 0.25–0.75%. Enter the senior citizen rate your bank quotes.
