EDF for Punjab National Bank: how to fill and submit it
If foreign client payments land in your Punjab National Bank current account, PNB is your AD bank and your monthly EDF goes to it. The form is the standard EDF from the Annex to the FEMA (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026, and it is due within 30 days from the end of the month in which you raised the invoices. What PNB decides is the channel: under Regulation 19 every bank publishes its own policy on how it accepts EDFs, so confirm the route with your branch before your first filing.
Key takeaways
- Your EDF goes to the bank where the foreign money is received. For PNB account holders, that is PNB.
- Get your branch's AD code first. It is not your IFSC or SWIFT code.
- Ask your branch or relationship manager how PNB wants EDFs submitted: at the branch, by email or through a trade or net-banking channel.
- One EDF can cover all of a month's service invoices. October 2026 invoices are due by 30 November 2026.
- Collect a FIRA or bank advice for every receipt so that EDPMS entries can be closed.
Before your first PNB filing
Much of the friction with the first EDF has nothing to do with the form. It comes from missing details that only your branch can give you. Get these settled in one visit or call.
| What to ask PNB | Why you need it |
|---|---|
| The AD code for export transactions on your account | Field 1.6 of the EDF |
| Whether your branch handles export transactions or is linked to another branch for forex work | Tells you where the EDF actually gets processed |
| The accepted submission channel (branch counter, email, online) | Avoids sending the form somewhere it will not be picked up |
| Number of copies and signature format | Some banks want originals; some accept signed PDFs |
| How the bank issues FIRAs or inward remittance advices | Needed for realisation and GST records |
| Who to contact for EDPMS follow-up | Saves time when entries stay open |
If your branch is not sure of the AD code, ask in writing. Our AD code request letter gives you a ready format. The AD code is specific to export transactions, which is why it differs from your IFSC and SWIFT codes.
Filling the EDF for a PNB account
The form is identical whichever bank you use. A services exporter fills Part 1, skips Part 2A, adds one Part 2B row per invoice, and signs Part 4.
PNB-specific fields are few:
- 1.6 AD code: the code PNB gave you.
- 1.10 AD bank name and address: Punjab National Bank and the full address of the branch handling your export transactions.
- Part 5: leave it for the bank.
Everything else comes from your invoices: client name and address, country, invoice number and date, currency, amount, net realisable value, description, SAC code and contract reference. The free PNB version of the EDF generator pre-fills the bank name so you only add your details and invoices.
What to attach
There is no universal attachment list in the Regulations for a services EDF, and PNB may set its own expectations. A sensible default pack:
- The signed EDF.
- A short covering letter listing the invoices included.
- Copies of the invoices listed in Part 2B, if the branch asks for them.
- Any FIRAs or credit advices for invoices already paid.
Some businesses send invoices with every EDF; others wait until the bank asks. Ask PNB which it prefers and stick to that. A brief EDF cover letter helps the branch log your submission against the right account.
A worked example
Rangoli Software Services Pvt Ltd in Lucknow banks with PNB. In November 2026 it raised four invoices:
| Invoice | Client country | Amount | INR value |
|---|---|---|---|
| RSS/112 | USA | USD 6,000 | ₹5,01,000 |
| RSS/113 | UAE | AED 18,000 | ₹4,09,000 |
| RSS/114 | UK | GBP 2,800 | ₹2,96,000 |
| RSS/115 | USA | USD 3,500 | ₹2,92,000 |
It files a single EDF with four Part 2B rows and ₹14,98,000 in field 1.22, due by 30 December 2026. Because Rangoli's work is software, field 1.1 says "Software", and it could have filed with STPI instead. It chose PNB, the bank where the money arrives, to keep everything in one place.
All four invoices are under ₹10 lakh, so once the payments arrive PNB may close the EDPMS entries on Rangoli's periodic realisation declaration rather than invoice-by-invoice evidence.
FIRA from Punjab National Bank
Every foreign payment that lands in your PNB account should come with a record of the remittance: a FIRA, FIRC or inward remittance advice showing the date, currency, amount, rupee credit and purpose code. You need it for:
- Closing EDPMS entries on invoices above ₹10 lakh.
- Your GST refund file if you export with IGST paid.
- Year-end reconciliation of export revenue.
Check the purpose code on each one. A software exporter would usually expect P0802 or P0807; a consultancy P1006. If PNB has used the wrong code, ask for it to be corrected promptly. Our separate guide on getting FIRA or FIRC from PNB covers what to check line by line.
After you submit
Under Regulation 18, the bank must enter your EDF into EDPMS within 5 working days. A week after submitting, it is reasonable to ask the branch to confirm the EDF has been recorded.
Then keep an eye on realisation. Services must be paid in full within 9 months from the invoice date, or 12 months for rupee invoices. If a client is running late, ask PNB for an extension before the deadline, with reasons and evidence.
If something goes wrong
- PNB holds an inward credit. Since 1 October 2026 your bank may hold a credit until you provide the EDF. File it, and the hold should resolve.
- You missed a month. File as soon as you can with a short explanation. The AD bank may accept a delayed EDF for reasonable cause.
- The branch is unfamiliar with the new process. Ask to be connected to the team that handles trade or forex operations. Keep your requests in writing.
This is general information, not legal or tax advice. PNB publishes its own process, and your branch is the final word on it.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I submit the EDF if I bank with PNB?
To Punjab National Bank, as your AD bank, through whichever channel PNB has published for EDFs. Ask your branch or relationship manager whether that is the branch counter, email or an online channel. Software exporters may file with STPI instead.
Is my PNB IFSC the same as the AD code?
No. IFSC is for domestic transfers, SWIFT identifies the bank for international payments, and the AD code identifies the branch for export transactions. Ask PNB for the AD code linked to your account.
Can one EDF cover all my invoices for the month?
Yes. Regulation 3(2)(a) lets one EDF cover all of a month's service exports to one or more recipients. Each invoice becomes a row in Part 2B.
What is the due date for my PNB EDF?
Thirty days from the end of the invoice month. November 2026 invoices are due by 30 December 2026, and December 2026 invoices by 30 January 2027. Services other than software may also be filed on or before the payment date.
Does PNB charge for accepting an EDF?
We do not have a verified answer, and charges vary by bank and account type. Ask your branch for its schedule of charges on export transactions and inward remittances.
Bottom line
Filing an EDF with Punjab National Bank is the standard form plus three bank-specific checks: the AD code, the submission channel and how FIRAs are issued. Settle those once, then file monthly. The free PNB EDF form pre-fills the bank details, and the EDF due dates table keeps your calendar honest.

EDF form FAQs
What is the EDF form?
The Export Declaration Form (EDF) is the form in the Annex to RBI's Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026. From 1 October 2026, exporters of services declare the full export value on it to their AD bank (or STPI for software, or the SEZ Development Commissioner for SEZ units).
When is the EDF due?
Within 30 days from the end of the month in which the invoice was raised. October 2026 invoices are due by 30 November 2026. For services other than software, you may instead submit on or before the date you receive payment.
Can one EDF cover several clients?
Yes. One EDF can cover all your service exports in a month to one or more recipients. Each invoice gets its own row in Part 2B.
Which parts does a service exporter fill?
Part 1 (general information), Part 2B (services table) and Part 4 (declaration). Part 2A is for goods and Part 3 is for post/courier exports, so service exporters usually leave them blank. Part 5 is for the bank.
Do individual freelancers have to file the EDF?
On 7 October 2026, RBI said individuals providing services abroad are not covered by the reporting requirement and that FAQs will follow. The Regulations' text hasn't changed yet, so check with your bank. Proprietorships, firms, LLPs and companies should assume they are covered.
By when must I get paid?
Within nine months of the invoice date for services, or twelve months if the invoice is in Indian rupees. Your AD bank can extend this on a reasoned request.
What is the AD code and where do I get it?
The AD code identifies the bank branch that handles your export transactions. It is not the IFSC or SWIFT code. Ask your branch or relationship manager — our AD code request letter makes it easy.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Without an account, everything stays in your browser. If you create a free account, your business details and saved EDFs are stored so you can reopen them on any device.
Does the EDF change my GST or income tax?
No. The EDF is a FEMA declaration to your bank. GST (LUT, zero-rated supply) and income tax rules apply separately.
