EDF for Barclays Bank (India): how to fill and submit it
When your company's foreign receipts are credited to an account with Barclays Bank in India, Barclays is your AD bank and receives your monthly Export Declaration Form. For corporate exporters the filing is rarely the hard part; closing large invoices in EDPMS is, because anything above ₹10 lakh needs the invoice, payment evidence and matching instructions. Confirm Barclays' accepted channel with your relationship manager, and build your evidence pack as each payment arrives.
Key takeaways
- Barclays Bank in India is your AD bank for exports whose proceeds land in your account there.
- The AD code for field 1.6 is not the IFSC (starting with BARC) or the SWIFT code; get it from your RM.
- January invoices have an unusual deadline: 2 March 2027, because February has 28 days.
- Invoices above ₹10 lakh close only with documents and matching instructions, so collect FIRAs or advices as you go.
- Split or partial payments need a clear allocation to invoice numbers.
Barclays as your AD bank
Barclays operates in India as a foreign bank with a corporate focus. Exporters who bank there are usually companies rather than freelancers: technology services firms, consulting businesses and Indian arms of international groups, often with a few high-value invoices each month.
Your AD bank is the bank where the foreign money lands. If you hold accounts at Barclays and at an Indian bank, check which one actually receives your export proceeds; that bank gets the EDF.
Three codes, one field
Field 1.6 of the EDF asks for the AD code. Your Barclays paperwork probably shows an IFSC beginning with BARC, which routes domestic payments, and a SWIFT code your foreign clients use to send money. The AD code is a third identifier that tells the system which bank branch handles your export transactions.
Ask your relationship manager for the AD code of the branch servicing your account. Ask, too, how Barclays accepts EDFs under the policy it publishes under Regulation 19: the channel, the signature format, and whether invoice copies should be attached. We do not describe the bank's internal process; your RM's written reply is the reference to keep.
A January filing, worked through
Trident Systems Consulting Pvt Ltd provides IT consulting and support to clients in the United States and Europe and banks with Barclays in India. In January 2027 it raised three invoices:
- TSC/27/004, 8 January: USD 48,000 to a US healthcare software company
- TSC/27/011, 19 January: EUR 9,000 to a German logistics firm
- TSC/27/015, 28 January: USD 6,500 to a US startup
At illustrative rates of ₹84.50 per USD and ₹91 per EUR, the rupee values are ₹40,56,000, ₹8,19,000 and ₹5,49,250. Field 1.22 shows ₹54,24,250. Each row in Part 2B uses SAC 998313 (IT consulting and support), and the description matches the wording on the invoice. Mode of delivery at 1.4 is Internet; mode of realisation at 1.12 is Others.
The deadline is the detail to watch. Filing is due within 30 days from the end of the invoice month. For January 2027, that is 2 March 2027, not 28 February and not 30 February. Trident puts the date in its compliance calendar in December so nobody assumes "the 30th".
Building the evidence pack for large invoices
Barclays must enter the EDF into EDPMS within 5 working days. From then on, each invoice is an open entry until it is recorded as realised. How it closes depends on its value.
| Invoice up to ₹10 lakh | Invoice above ₹10 lakh | |
|---|---|---|
| How the entry closes | On your declaration that the money has been realised | On documents and matching instructions |
| What you provide | A periodic declaration covering many invoices | Invoice, payment evidence (FIRA, FIRC or bank advice), matching instructions |
| When to provide it | Periodically, for example quarterly | As each payment arrives |
| Trident's January invoices | TSC/27/011 and TSC/27/015 | TSC/27/004 |
For the two smaller invoices, Trident can include them in its quarterly declaration, which our realisation declaration tool prepares. For the USD 48,000 invoice, it needs the payment evidence. If the bank has not issued a FIRA or FIRC for that credit, Trident can request one formally with our FIRC request letter.
When the advice arrives, check the purpose code. IT consulting would typically sit with a code such as P0802 (software consultancy and implementation), but the right code depends on the actual service. Confirm it with the bank before the credit is processed, because a wrong code is harder to fix later.
When clients pay in pieces
Corporate clients often pay a large invoice in two tranches, or settle three invoices with one transfer. Neither breaks the system, but both need a clear trail.
Suppose Trident's US client pays TSC/27/004 as USD 30,000 in February and USD 18,000 in April. Each remittance should be matched to the same invoice number, and the entry stays open until the full value is realised. Ask your clients to quote invoice numbers in the payment reference; it saves your finance team hours of reconciliation and gives the bank what it needs.
If a client deducts amounts or disputes part of the invoice, tell the bank early and keep the correspondence. The realisation deadline is 9 months from the invoice date, so TSC/27/004 must be realised by 8 October 2027. If that looks unlikely, request an extension with reasons before the deadline.
For a field-by-field walk through the form itself, see our EDF guide. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.
Frequently asked questions
How do I submit an EDF to Barclays in India?
Use the channel Barclays specifies under its published EDF policy. Your relationship manager can confirm whether it is online, by email or physical submission, and what to attach.
When is the EDF for January 2027 invoices due?
By 2 March 2027. The rule is 30 days from the end of the invoice month, and February 2027 has 28 days, so the deadline moves into March.
What does Barclays need to close an invoice above ₹10 lakh?
Expect to provide the invoice, payment evidence such as a FIRA, FIRC or bank advice, and matching instructions linking the payment to the invoice. Confirm the exact documents with your RM.
Can I declare small invoices instead of sending documents?
Yes, for invoices up to ₹10 lakh the bank may close the EDPMS entry on your declaration that the money has been realised. The declaration is separate from the EDF and can be given periodically.
A client paid one invoice in two parts. What do I do?
Send the bank matching instructions for each remittance against the same invoice number. The entry stays open until the full value is realised or the shortfall is dealt with by the bank.
Bottom line
With Barclays, the monthly EDF is quick once the AD code and channel are fixed; the real discipline is matching each large payment to its invoice. Start next month's filing with the free Barclays EDF generator and keep your evidence pack current as money arrives.

EDF form FAQs
What is the EDF form?
The Export Declaration Form (EDF) is the form in the Annex to RBI's Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026. From 1 October 2026, exporters of services declare the full export value on it to their AD bank (or STPI for software, or the SEZ Development Commissioner for SEZ units).
When is the EDF due?
Within 30 days from the end of the month in which the invoice was raised. October 2026 invoices are due by 30 November 2026. For services other than software, you may instead submit on or before the date you receive payment.
Can one EDF cover several clients?
Yes. One EDF can cover all your service exports in a month to one or more recipients. Each invoice gets its own row in Part 2B.
Which parts does a service exporter fill?
Part 1 (general information), Part 2B (services table) and Part 4 (declaration). Part 2A is for goods and Part 3 is for post/courier exports, so service exporters usually leave them blank. Part 5 is for the bank.
Do individual freelancers have to file the EDF?
On 7 October 2026, RBI said individuals providing services abroad are not covered by the reporting requirement and that FAQs will follow. The Regulations' text hasn't changed yet, so check with your bank. Proprietorships, firms, LLPs and companies should assume they are covered.
By when must I get paid?
Within nine months of the invoice date for services, or twelve months if the invoice is in Indian rupees. Your AD bank can extend this on a reasoned request.
What is the AD code and where do I get it?
The AD code identifies the bank branch that handles your export transactions. It is not the IFSC or SWIFT code. Ask your branch or relationship manager — our AD code request letter makes it easy.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Without an account, everything stays in your browser. If you create a free account, your business details and saved EDFs are stored so you can reopen them on any device.
Does the EDF change my GST or income tax?
No. The EDF is a FEMA declaration to your bank. GST (LUT, zero-rated supply) and income tax rules apply separately.
